01Where we stand
Portland cement production accounts for roughly 7–8% of global carbon dioxide emissions. Two thirds of that does not come from fuel but from the chemistry of the process itself: firing limestone above 1400 °C decomposes calcium carbonate and releases CO₂. That share cannot be reduced with a better kiln — it is built into the reaction.
ROCKLAST Ltd. manufactures alkali-activated geopolymer systems, which use no clinker. There is no limestone calcination, and therefore no process CO₂. The binder is built from aluminosilicate raw materials, a substantial part of which are industrial by-product streams — materials that would otherwise go to landfill.
02E — Environment
What we achieve
- Around 80% lower carbon footprint per tonne of binder compared with an equivalent quantity of Portland cement, calculated for the production stage.
- Valorisation of industrial by-product streams as a principal raw material — waste goes in, a structural material comes out.
- No clinker firing — the most energy-intensive operation in conventional cement manufacture is removed entirely.
- Activator produced on site — a short logistics chain and lower transport emissions.
- Water only on site — the systems require no solvents, which eliminates volatile organic compound emissions during application.
What we commit to
- Measuring and documenting energy and water consumption at the Stara Zagora facility.
- Developing an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to EN 15804 for systems that have completed testing.
- Working to the waste hierarchy: prevention, reuse, recycling, and only then disposal.
- Permitting no discharge of untreated process water.
04G — Governance
- Zero tolerance of corruption. We neither offer nor accept bribes, kickbacks or benefits intended to influence decisions — including in public procurement.
- Fair competition. We take no part in price-fixing or market allocation.
- Accuracy in communication. We publish only figures we can support with a test report. We do not attribute to a product a property that has not been measured.
- Transparency with the customer. Where one of our systems is not suitable for a project, we say so rather than offering a compromise.
- Responsible supply chain. We expect our suppliers to meet the same principles.
05HSEQ — health, safety, environment, quality
We are building our management system on the model of ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment) and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety), with subsequent certification as the goal.
Health and safety
- A risk assessment for every workplace and an induction before anyone is admitted to work.
- Alkaline activators are corrosive. Work with them is carried out only with the prescribed personal protective equipment and with running water available for rinsing.
- Safety data sheets for every product, supplied together with the delivery.
- Investigation of every incident and every near miss, followed by amendment of the procedure.
Quality
- Incoming inspection of raw materials before release to production.
- Batch control with traceability: every batch carries a number that leads back to its raw materials and production parameters.
- Retention of reference samples from every batch for the duration of the limitation period.
- A complaints register with root-cause analysis, not merely symptom analysis.
06Accountability and feedback
This declaration is reviewed annually and whenever there is a material change in our activity. It is approved by the company's manager and is binding on all employees and on our subcontractors.
If you are a partner and your supplier approval procedure requires a questionnaire, conformity documents or a site visit, write to us — we handle such requests as a priority.
Reports of any breach of the principles set out here may be sent to office@rocklast.com. We treat them confidentially and without consequence to the person reporting.
